Tuesday August 24, 2004
A new film that portrays dictator Adolf Hitler's human side during his last days in a Berlin air-raid shelter is causing controversy in Germany. Produced by Bernd Eichinger and directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, "Der Untergang (The Downfall)" shows Hitler awaiting the end in his Berlin bunker. Told from the point of view of his secretary Traudl Junge, the film features rising star Daniel Brühl and Bruno Ganz in the role of the Nazi "Führer." German newsmagazine Der Spiegel devoted a cover to "The Downfall," which is set to open on September 16.
