Online Movies: "The Power of Nightmares"
Monday December 12, 2005
These days, documentaries spread in strange ways. While Robert Greenwald's "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price" is making its way to audiences through innovative house parties and a direct-to-DVD scheme, the acclaimed BBC documentary "The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear" is showing on one screen only, at New York's Cinema Village. But as Anthony Kaufman points out, the entire three-part film is available for free download at archive.org. (If your internet connection can handle it, the largest available file format delivers good full-screen quality.) Directed by Adam Curtis, "The Power of Nightmares" examines whether the threat of terrorism to the West is "a politically driven fantasy."
