Film Bites: A Good Woman

By February 2, 2006

Need a date movie for Valentine's Day? Mike Barker's very handsome adaptation of Oscar Wilde's "Lady Windermere's Fan" would do splendidly. Wilde provides the quips, Helen Hunt the acting chops, Scarlett Johansson the ample bosom, and all of it is filtered through golden mediterranean light. Set in the sumptuous villas of the Italian Rivera, the film revels in witty repartee, Scarlett is disarming in period dress, and Oscar winner Helen Hunt gives good banter as Mrs. Erlynne, the older woman with a bad reputation who is after Meg's devoted husband. "A Good Woman," which opens tomorrow, rollicks happily to its merry end while addled hearts are broken and mended. [posted by Marcy]
