Tuya's Wedding, a film about a Mongolian shepherd directed by Chinese filmmaker Wang Quan'an, won the Berlin Film Festival's top award on Saturday. The film's win came as a surprise. Of the twenty-two films in competition, speculation favored the prestigious Golden Bear would go to Germany's The Counterfeiters, a Nazi-era drama, or Irina Palm, a British black comedy starring singer/actress Marianne Faithful.
