Review: Lust, Caution

Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, Ang Lee's Lust, Caution is a gorgeous film, sweeping you away to a different time and place. Based on a classic short story by Eileen Wang, the heart and soul of this NC-17 espionage thriller belongs to a young woman who comes of age in Japanese-occupied Shanghai during World War II. Tang Wei is disarmingly beautiful, and she gives a wonderful debut performance opposite Chinese star Tony Leung, who plays the sadistic lover she has been lured to kill. Lust, Caution opens Friday.
