NYFF Review: Margot at the Wedding

(Photo: Jürgen Fauth)
The opening scenes of Noah Baumbach's Margot at the Wedding are so sharp and funny and good that it's upsetting to report that the film cannot maintain its momentum, but flails and flounders before finally giving way to a deluge of histrionics and an unsatisfying conclusion. Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, John Turturo, and Jack Black star in this talky drama of family torment by the seaside. Read Marcy's review from the 45th New York Film Festival. Margot at the Wedding will open on November 16.

I recently saw this movie at the Telluride film festival. If you liked Baumbach’s The Squid and the Whale, then you’ll definitely enjoy this dark comedy-drama. This movie in a way reminds me of my family (only SOME parts) and to see Nicole as a dysfunctional lunatic, made me really really enjoy this movie! If you haven’t seen the trailer, go to Margot at the Wedding
This moviehas such interesting dynamics and a wonderful cast! Nicole Kidman, Jack Black, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Flora Cross come together and really deliver this dark-comedy film. I recommend it for any Noah Baumbach fan.
