Best of the Blogs: Screenplays, Wong Kar Wei, Misery Chart

Thursday October 25, 2007
We're content watching films, but some people like to read them. In the quest for Oscar gold, Paramount Vantage has taken the bold step of uploading the screenplays of  five prestige movies in PDF format. The titles available: A Mighty Heart, Into The Wild, The Kite Runner, Margot at the Wedding, and There Will Be Blood (via Movie City Indie)

Anne Thompson discovered a beautiful short film by Wong Kar Wei. Apparently it's a commercial, but with imagery this sumptuous, we don't mind spreading the viral marketing: "There is only one sun, but it travels the world every day."

What does The Darjeeling Limited have in common with Secret Sunshine? If you need a quick answer, simply consult this handy chart about shared themes at the 45th New York Film Festival, courtesy of Filmbrain. We thought the festival was all about suitcases, sometimes full of stolen money, sometimes stuffed with ransom, but Filmbrain sees overwhelming evidence of romantic misery: "Is cinematic love, like, so last century?"
