Tribeca Reveals World Narrative and Documentaries Lineup

Thursday March 13, 2008

In the past, we've often been underwhelmed by the Tribeca Film Festival, but perhaps it's time to get guardedly excited about this year's selections. With the announcement of lineups for the World Narrative and Documentary Competitions as well as the Encounters section, this year's festival is shaping up nicely -- and besides, our friends Dawn Logsdon and Lucie Faulkner will be in town, screening their New Orleans documentary Faubourg Tremé in the Discovery section.

Among the films in the World Narrative Competition, I'm especially happy for a chance to see Quiet Chaos again, a well-calibrated comedy about grief starring Nino Moretti (pictured). A few more films I missed at the Berlinale also show up on the list: The Aquarium, about an Egyptian anesthesiologist who spends his nights among the fish, and Somers Town, Shane Meadow's follow-up to This is England. Among the documentaries, I'm especially curious about Rosa von Praunheim's Two Mothers and Guest of Cindy Sherman. Check the official announcement for the complete lists. [posted by Jürgen]
