46th New York Film Festival Announces Lineup

Wednesday August 13, 2008
Changeling - Angelina Jolie in Clint Eastwood's new film

Clint Eastwood's drama The Changeling, starring Angelina Jolie (pictured), and Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler, with Mickey Rourke in the title role, join Laurent Cantet's Cannes-winner The Class as the three films highlighted at the 2008 New York Film Festival as Centerpiece, Closing Night, and Opening Night selections respectively.

The other 25 movies chosen for the prestigious two-week fest, scheduled for September 26 through October 12, include new work by many of the usual suspects; Jia Zhangke, Wong Kar Wai, Steven Soderbergh, Arnaud Desplechin, Mike Leigh, Olivier Assayas and Hong Song-soo are among the featured directors, with many films that already have garnered attention at Cannes earlier this year.

Once again, German directors are noticeably absent from the NYFF slate, with the exception of Max Ophüls, whose beautiful last film, the 1955 Lola Montès, will be presented in a new restoration from the Cinémathèque Française. Click through to see the full lineup.
