The year is 1955, and in Communist Russia, it is considered a subversive act to wear bright and stylish clothes. Valeriy Todorovskiy's candy-colored musical Hipsters (Stilyag) follows a merry band of youth who just want to have fun. Russian actress Oksana Akinshin (best known for her performance in Lukas Moodysson's Lila 4-Ever) is the most gorgeous hipster of them all.
Hipsters is currently playing in limited release. Funny and charming, the film -- a huge hit in Russia -- also contains a charming amount of depth. Read Marcy's review.
