Indie Celebrity Love Story: Saarsgard and Gyllenhaal

Wednesday April 12, 2006
Early in their courtship, Peter Saarsgard and Maggie Gyllenhaal did a little show and tell. Saarsgard showed Gyllenhaal his unrated flop The Center of the World; he stars as an oversexed computer programmer who hires a stripper to accompany him to Las Vegas. In turn, Gyllenhaal showed Saarsgard her indie, the edgy sex drama that launched her career. In Secretary, Gyllenhaal plays an emotionally troubled woman who finds happiness in a sadomasochistic affair with her boss.

Needless to say, the actors hit it off. Four years later, the couple is engaged to be married and expecting a child. Gyllenhaal, 28, sister of Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal, has starred in more than twenty films, including the ensemble dramas Casa de los Babies and Happy Endings and the upcoming 9/11 drama The Great New Wonderful. Sarsgaard, 35, also a favorite in the indie world, has starred in Jarhead, Garden State, and Shattered Glass. [posted by Marcy]
