Alain Resnais does a twenties operetta in style: lush colors, sparkling diamonds, swell tunes, and a glittering cast including Audrey Tautou, Lambert Wilson, and Sabine Azema. "Not on the Mouth" is somewhere between "8 Women" and "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg"; less knowing than one and less romantic than the other. Some of the songs could be a little shorter, but "Not On the Lips" is a lot more fun than "Hiroshima Mon Amour."
"Not On The Lips" will have its American premiere at the Rendez-Vous With French Cinema festival in New York. A hit in native France, the film was nominated for nine Césars Awards, including Best French Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor for Darry Cowl and Best Supporting Actress for Isabelle Nanty.
