Reviews
New York Times
"Sigourney Weaver visited a Kmart and milked a goat in preparation for her role in A Map of the World. ... The film overflows with the studied ordinariness that prevails in Mom movies, where glamorous Hollywood stars muck about in pajamas and a little epiphany may be signaled by a broken cereal bowl on the kitchen floor."Box Office Magazine
"A self-consciously life-affirming movie that uses tragedy as a dramatic tool with which people can improve themselves. It's a noxious conceit at the best of times, but in A Map of the World, the screenplay has such unspeakable dialogue that you don't even believe in the characters you're watching."Film.com
"A Map of the World has moments of heartbreaking emotion, and Moore, Weaver, David Straithairn (three of the best actors working) all are perfectly pitched. Director Scott Elliot orchestrates the film carefully, letting organic and believable actions and responses fill the screen. Weaver's Alice is truly one of the most fascinatingly flawed, real women we've seen on the screen in a long time."Kevin Maynard, Mr. Showbiz
"A Map of the World is worth navigating for its refusal to play to the crowd. There's certainly nothing safe or sweet about Weaver's performance. Picture her Ripley from the Alien movies - on a really bad day."
