Ghost Dog is cooler than Billy Elliot

Forget Ericka Christensen from Traffic: rumor has it that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is on crack. Compare their nominations for best director to mine, and make up your own mind.

You already know how about how I feel about these pictures. Kudos to Mary Harron for turning the gruesome serial killer story of American Pyscho into a biting satire, to Kenneth Lonergan for directing such wonderful performances, to the Coen Brothers for hamming it up and succeeding it. Also to Alison Mclean for the entirely overlooked, wonderful film Jesus' Son and Jim Jarmusch, who spoke volumes with his quiet gangster samurai story.

Here's what the Best Director category should look like:

Jim Jarmusch, Ghost Dog Way of The Samurai
Kenneth Lonergan, You Can Count On Me
The Coen Brothers, O Brother Where Art Thou
Alison Mclean, Jesus' Son
Mary Harron, American Psycho
