The nominations for Best Supporting Actress are:
The Academy clearly has a thing for Judi Dench. I guess it's because she is an English Dame. She already took this award for Shakespeare in Love -- and that was for only eight minutes screen time. Kate Hudson was pretty enough in Almost Famous, but award-worthy? I'd sooner vote for Rebecca Pidgeon in State and Main, who was both beautiful and smart, or Frances McDormand as the mother in Almost Famous who could make Billy Crudup shake in his rock-star boots. Zhang Ziyi gets a nod for being the best martial arts brat. And Catherine Deneuve convincing as a factory worker? Amazing. Here are the nominations for Best Supporting Actress, as they should be:
