I don't much believe in award shows. Every year, the Oscars fill me with vitriol. And can you believe Lasse Hallstrom's saccharine "Chocolat" got a nod for best film from the Golden Globes?
At least the Independent Spirit Awards recognize the good stuff. "Chuck and Buck," "Requiem for a Dream," and "You Can Count on Me," each received five nominations.
