The Coen Brothers, Page 2

On the Coen Horizon
This December, look for the anticipated release of O Brother, Where Are Thou? The film, a modern version of Homer's Odyssey is a period piece/musical set in 1930s Mississippi. Three escaped convicts (George Clooney, John Turturo, and Tim Blake Nelson) try to evade their hunters while also searching for some hidden loot, and ultimately, hope to get home to their families. The film premiered at this year's Cannes Festival and advance reviews are more than positive.

What else? Brad Pitt has signed on to do To The White Sea based on a novel by James Dickey, the authore of Deliverance. Before that, there's the Barber Project, a black and white film noir currently in production. The cast features Coen's regular Frances McDormand (also married to Joel since 1984) and the often enigmatic Billy Bob Thornton.

And the next film, and the next. The Coen Brothers left an indelible mark on the twentieth century history of film. It's exciting to see what their future will bring.
