Pierce's first feature film Boy's
Don't Cry is a fictionalized account of the Brandon Teena story. A young
woman (played by Hilary Swank) moves to a small-town America, passes as a man,
gets the girls, and inevitable, horrifying trouble. The film, according to Salon
Magazine, is gripping and charged with tension. Swank is known for flufflier
parts in The Next Karate Kid and Beverly Hills 90210, delivers
a powerful performance. Also starring Chloë Sevigny, Peter Sarsgaard, and Brendan
Sexton III. Released October 8 in NY; opening soon across the country.
A
portal into John Malkovich's brain? That's the premise of Spike Jonze film Being
John Malkovich. Starring John Cusack as the tormented clerk who
crawls into this tormented reality and Cameron Diaz as his dowdy (yes, really)
wife. John Malkovich makes it in there, too. Opening October 29.
Prepare
thyself. That's the studio slogan for Dogma,
the highly anticipated, controversial new release by Kevin Smith, director of
Clerks and Chasing Amy. General plot outline: the last known descendant
of Christ is called upon to save the existence of humanity from being negated
by two renegade angels trying to exploit a loophole. Starring Ben Affleck, Matt
Damon, and Linda Fiorentino. Release date: November 12.

About My Mother won the Golden Palm at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
The funny and moving film is about a young writer who struggles to discover
the identity of his father, long concealed by his mother. Starring Cecilia Roth,
Eloy Arozin, and Penelope Cruz, the young Spanish actress who is currently breaking
into America cinema on her own. Release date: November 19, NY and LA.
