Groundbreaking Television
Remember the big milestone episode of "Ellen" when Ellen
Degeneres got to kiss the girl? Compared to the raw honesty of the
Showtime series "Queer as Folk," Ellen's big moment was
laughable. If you want a true picture of gay intimacy and casual
sex with a backbeat, this is the show. QAF focuses on the lives
of a group of gay men and women living in Pittsburgh who, like anyone,
are focused on their relationships, careers, loves and ambitions.
And sex. Lots of sex.
The heart of the show is Brian Kinney (Gale Harold).
His best friend is love with him, seventeen-year-old sweet heart
Justin is in love with, the lesbian mother of his child has feelings
for him, and he can have anyone he wants. As in all serial television,
the show hits the serious moments of life: the drug-addicted boyfriend,
the sexual harassment suit at the office, illness, and antagonism.
These stories are intelligently explored and well-written, but it's
the scenes at the clubs that are the glue of the show. Flamboyant
Emmett's funny outfits, young Justin earnest in love, Brian Kinney
and his white silk scar. With twenty-two episodes to feast on, this
box set set will keep you busy for a long time.
