"Why We Fight," written and directed by Eugene Jarecki, took the American Documentary Grand Jury Prize, the festival's other top honor. The film examines a half century's worth of American military misadventures and misguided missions. Jarecki is the brother of Andrew Jarecki, whose "Capturing the Friedmans" won the Sundance documentary prize in 2003.
"Hustle & Flow," Craig Brewer's moving drama about an aging pimp who decides to become a rapper, earned the most buzz at the fest. Produced by John Singleton, "Hustle & Flow" also picked up the biggest distribution deal, signing with Paramount for nine million dollars. The popular film was awarded the America Dramatic Audience Award.
