Both films, made by American filmmakers, deal with multi-ethnic cultures. "Quinceañera" tells the story of fifteen year old Magdelena (Emily Rios), a traditional Latin American girl from Echo Park whose trouble starts when she discovers she is pregnant. "God Grew Tired of Us" explores the lives of three Sudanese refugees living in the United States.
Hilary Brougher won the Walt Salt Screenwriting Award for "Stephanie Daley." In World Cinema, Juan Carlos Rulfo's "In The Pit" won the jury prize for documentary; Gela Babluani's "13 Tzamet" took the drama award. James Longley's documentary Iraq in Fragments won three prizes: documentary directing, cinematography, and documentary editing award.
