Trivia:

Kretschmann has played a WW2 German military role at least five times, with "Stalingrad" (1993), "U-571" (2000), "The Pianist" (2002), "Donwfall" (2004) and "In Enemy Hands" (2004).

Biography:

Born and raised in East Germany, Kretschmann began his acting career on stage in Germany in the late 1980s after training to be an Olympic swimmer. Since then, he has starred in numerous European films and Television Series.

Now living in Los Angeles, Kretschmann is best known to American audiences for his role as Nazi officer “Wilm Hosenfeld” in Roman Polasnki's "The Pianist." He has also been seen in such films as "U-571," "Blade 11," "Resident Evil: Apocalypse," and "In Enemy Hands." In addition to film work, Kretschmann has had guest-starring roles on numerous television series including, "Karen Sisco," and "24."

Thomas will play Captain Englehorn in the highly anticipated Peter Jackson film, "King Kong," working for the second time with Academy Award winner "Adrien Brody." Other upcoming roles include parts in "The Celestine Prophecy" and "Butterfly, A Grim Love Story
