Garden Party

'Kit Kittredge: An American Girl'
A review of Patricia Rozema's Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. Abigail Breslin stars as 9-year-old Kit Kittredge, an aspiring newspaper journalist out to solve a mystery during the Great Depression. The ensemble cast includes Stanley Tucci, Glenne Headly, Jane Krakowski, Julia Ormond and Wallace Shawn.

Be Kind Rewind
Jack Black stars in Be Kind Rewind, a one-of-a-kind comedy from the mind of writer/director Michel Gondry Be Kind Rewind features a cast that includes Mos Def, Danny Glover, and Mia Farrow. It is scheduled for a January 25, 2008 release.

The Incredible Hulk
Director Louis Leterrier avoids taking any chances: "The Incredible Hulk," written by superhero veteran Zak Penn, is as by-the-numbers as they come. Not even talented Ed Norton as tormented scientist Bruce Banner can breathe life into this unnecessary remake.

Choke (2008)
Clark Gregg directed and apapted Chuck Palhniuk's "Choke." Starring Sam Rockwell, Anjelica Huston, Brad William Henke, Kelly Macdonald & Clark Gregg. "Choke" opens September 26, 2008.

Savage Grace (2008)
Julianne Moore stars in Tom Kalin's "Savage Grace," a tale of decadence and dysfunction among the postwar international elite, based upon the acclaimed exposé of the notorious Baekeland scandal.

Grace is Gone
John Cusack stars as a young father whose soldier wife has just been killed in Iraq in James Strouse's drama "Grace is Gone." Young actresses Gracie Bednarczyk and Shélan O'Keefe make their film debut, playing Cusack's daughters.

The Visitor
The situation in Tom McCarthy's second film The Visitor is ripe with drama: Walter Vale (Richard Jenkins), an economics professor and quintessential sad man, returns to his Greenwich Village apartment when his Connecticut college pressures him to present a lecture at NYU. His apartment, however, isn't empty. Illegal immigrants have moved in: an attractive young couple, Tarek (Haaz Sleiman) and Zainab (Danai Gurira).

Expired (2008)
Samantha Morton stars in "Expired," an offbeat comedy about a meter maid who falls in love with a parking official. Illeana Douglas, Jason Patric, Teri Garr, and Sonia Iris Lozada also star in Cecilia Miniucchi's debut film.

Pineapple Express
David Gordon Green ("George Washington," "Snow Angels") leaves the independent film world behind with his new stoner comedy produced by Judd Apatow "Pineapple" Express starring James Franco and Seth Rogan.

The Foot Fist Way
THE FOOT FIST WAY is an uproarious, full-contact comedy featuring one of this year's least likely of heroes. Shot in just 19 days on a credit card-financed micro-budget with a cast of mostly newcomers, the film became an overnight smash at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival.

The Children of Huang Shi
Roger Spottiswoode's "The Children of Huang Shi" tells the story of George Hogg, a young British journalist, who rescues 60 orphaned children. Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Michelle Yeoh, Chow Yun-Fat, Radha Mitchell and Guang Wen Li star.

The Go-Getter
"The Go-Getter" is a vivid, fun road movie, full of surprising twists (along with a little sex, some drugs and an instantly-classic rock'n'roll score by M. Ward). Starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Zooey Deschanel, Jena Malone, M. Ward, Judy Greer, Nick Offerman and Brian McNamara, the film is written and directed by Martin Hynes. The film opens June 6, 2008.

The Fall
Tarsem Singh's thriller "The Fall" tells the story of a little immigrant girl (Catinca Untaru) finds herself in a hospital recovering from a fall.

Redbelt
David Mamet's Redbelt tells that story of Mike Terry, a Jiu-jitsu master who has avoided the prize fighting circuit, choosing to instead pursue a life of honor and education by operating a self-defense studio in Los Angeles. The strong ensemble cast of Redbelt includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tim Allen, Emily Mortimer, Alice Braga, and Joe Mantegna.

War, Inc.
WAR, INC. is a funny and poignant film in the vein of “Grosse Pointe Blank.” Co-written by Mark Leyner, Jeremy Pikser and producer/star John Cusack, the film also stars Hilary Duff, Marisa Tomei, Joan Cusack, Sir Ben Kingsley and Dan Aykroyd.

Then She Found Me
Helen Hunt makes her feature directing debut with THEN SHE FOUND ME, a touching story of schoolteacher April Epner (Hunt) and her very unlikely path towards personal fulfillment. Helen Hunt, Bette Midler, Colin Firth, Matthew Broderick, and Ben Shenkm an star.

The Babysitters
In David Ross' dark comedy "The Babysitters," a 16-year-old turns her babysitting service into a call-girl ring for married men after she begins an affair with a customer. John Leguizamo, Cynthia Nixon, and newcomer Katherine Waterston star.

Mister Lonely (2008)
Harmony Korine's "Mister Lonely" marks his return to direction since julien donkey-boy (1999. Diego Luna stars as a young American who works as a Michael Jackson lookalike meets Marilyn Monroe (played by Samantha Morton).

The Life Before Her Eyes
Vadim Perelman's "The Life Before Her Eyes" tells the story of Diana (Uma Thurman) suburban wife and mother who begins to question her seemingly perfect life--and perhaps her sanity--on the 15th anniversary of a tragic high school shooting that took the life of her best friend. Evan Rachel Woods plays Diana in a series of flashbacks.

My Blueberry Nights
In Wong Kar Wai's "My Blueberry Nights" a young woman (Norah Jones) takes a soul-searching journey across America to resolve her questions about love while encountering a series of memorable characters along the way. Jude Law and Natalie Portman also star.

Frozen River
Courtney Hunt's "Frozen River," winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, takes place in a desolate American landscape, an impoverished town in Upstate New York on the edge of Mohonk reservation and the Canadian border. Melissa Leo and Misty Upham star as unlikely immigrant smugglers.

Hamlet 2
Andrew Fleming's Hamlet 2, a smash hit at the Sundance Film Festival, opens August 22, 2008. Steve Coogan stars as as a failed actor and drama coach in Andy Fleming's bawdy satirical take on inspirational teachers. Catherine Keener co-stars as Coogan's wife. Elisabeth Shue plays herself.

Sex and Death 101
SEX & DEATH 101 marks the reunion of writer/director Winona Ryder with his Heathers leading lady, Winona Ryder. The cast also includes Leslie Bibb, Julie Bowen, Sophie Monk, Mindy Cohn), Dash Mihok, Patton Oswalt and Neil Flynn .
