Born September 14, 1969 in Seoul, Bong Joon-ho is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. A graduate of the Korean Academy of Film Arts, Bong directed several short films before his feature film debut Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000).

Joon-ho won the South Korean film industry's Grand Bell Award for best film director for his second film Memories of Murder.

His third film The Host is South Korea's most successful film of all time. The film is about a mutant that's a bit of a mutation itself; with unflappable confidence, Bong Joon-ho grafts droll humor and sly political commentary onto the DNA of a classic Hollywood creature feature.

South Korean actor Song Kang-ho starred in both Memories of Murder and The Host.
