Top 6 New DVD Releases - September 28

By Jurgen Fauth & Marcy Dermansky, About.com

New on DVD this week: "Super Size Me," "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "Rivers and Tides: Andy Goldsworthy Working With Time," "The Big One," "My New Gun", and "Tess."

1. Super Size Me

Super Size Me
A month of Happy Meals: filmmaker Morgan Spurlock ate nothing but McDonald's for thirty days, under close supervision by a team of doctors. The results of his fast food binge are shocking, and his documentary on the controversial experiment is a terrific film that makes nutrition sexy.

2. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, and Mark Ruffalo enter screenwriter Charlie Kaufman's latest metaphysical mystery in Michael Gondry's twisted "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." Special features include a documentary about the making of the film and a conversation between Jim Carrey and Michel Gondry.

3. Rivers and Tides: Andy Goldsworthy Working With Time

Andy Goldsworthy uses the natural world as the raw materials of his art, which he creates as ephemeral artifacts in the natural environment of the materials. The DVD release also includes seven short films dedicated to individual earthworks, a still gallery, and filmmaker and artist bios.

4. The Big One

Michael Moore's hilarious and insightful second documentary takes on corporate America. Armed only with a camera and a sharp sense of humor, Moore is back in the nation's heartland and searching for an executive -- any executive -- who will respond to one tough question: if Fortune 500 companies are posting record-setting profits, why do they continue laying off thousands of workers?

5. My New Gun

Diane Lane stars one confused New Jersey housewife in Stacy Cochran's 1992 engaging indie film. Her not-so-terrific marriage falls apart when her husband presents her with a pearl studded hand gun and she takes up with shaggy neighbor Skippy (James Le Gross.) Lane's fans will appreciate this unknown gem, a low key send off on the suburbs that deserves an audience.
