This week's top DVD releases offer the work of young and talented independent filmakers: Rose Troche's "The Safety of Objects" and Neil LaBute's "The Shape of Things." And oh yes, if you need it, Neo, Trinity and Morpheus are back in "The Matrix Reloaded."
Rose Troche assembled a terrific cast, including Glenn Close, Patricia Clarkson, Joshua Jackson, and Dermot Mulroney, for "The Safety of Objects," a look at four neighboring families based on the caustic stories of A.M. Homes.
The most likable film in Neil LaBute's mean-spirited career : "The Shape Of Things" stars Rachel Weisz, Paul Rudd, and Gretchen Mol.
Karen Moncrieff's coming of age film stars Agnes Bruckner is a high school senior with a crippling lack of self-esteem who falls for her sad-eyed poetry teacher (David Straithairn). The quiet film disappeared quickly from the box office but was a critical hit and a favorite at this year's Sundance.

Philip Seymour Hoffman gives another chameleon-like performance as a sad-sack manager whose gambling problem drives him to embezzle $10 million from his Toronto bank. Also starring Minnie Driver. 5. Cronos: 10th Anniversary Special Edition
Guillermo Del Toro (Blade 2) made his feature debut with this striking twist on the vampire legend. Special features include 2 commentary tracks, plus the new 15 interview featurette Director's Perspective, and an archival interview featurette Making Cronos With Federico Luppi.
