This weeks recommended releases feature rolling heads, a shockingly mischievous Audrey Tatou, a moving Holocaust drama, and a lovely coming of age story about an Iranian girl in New Jersey.
1. House of 1000 Corpses
Rob Zombie's loving tribute to the seventies American Southwestern Gothic horror film will scare you silly. Mad clowns, sexy blondes with a taste for cannibalism, and a boogieman by the name of Dr. Satan are bound to wig out even the toughest horror connoisseurs.
2. He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
Winsome Audrey Tatou ("Amelie") is madly in love in this clever French film...or is she? We won't ruin the surprise by giving away the gimmick, but let's say the movie has a few tricks up its sleeve.
3. Maryamn
Mariam Parris is Maryamn, an Iranian-American teenage girl living in New Jersey in 1979, trying to deal with the usual teenage crises (boys, friends, fitting in) when her devout Mulsim cousin Ali (David Ackert) comes to stay and the Americans are taken hostage in Iran.4. Amen
Costa-Gavras directed this moving film about SS officer Kurt Gerstein who attempted to inform Pope Pie XII about Jews being sent to concentration camps. 5. This Is Not A Love Song
This 2002 Scottish film directed by Bille Eltringham is an effective thriller in the tradition of "Deliverance." A dim but sweet fellow just out of prison and his marginally smarter friend hit the Scottish Highland after a tragic twist leaves a girl dead and puts an angry mob on their trail.
