Dec 9 2007 There Will Be Blood Dominates NYFCO AwardsPaul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood was the big winner at this year's New York Film Critics Online award meeting. We were there, we voted and we were happy to see some of our favorites receive recognition. There Will Be Blood follows the epic rise and fall of prospector Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis) in the booming West Coast oil fields at the turn of the 20th century. The film shared Best Picture with Julian Schnabel's The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Blood's other awards include Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, Best Cinematography for Robert Elswit, Best Score for Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood and Best Actor for Daniel Day-Lewis. Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud's Persepolis, the remarkable story of one girl's coming of age in Iran, took two top awards: Best Foreign Film and Best Animation. Canadian Sarah Polley was given the prestigious Best Debut Director award for Away From Her, the adaption of Alice Munro's short story. Star Julie Christie also received Best Actress for her performance in the film. In the Best Supporting categories, Javier Bardem and Cate Blanchett took the prizes, for No Country For Old Men and I'm Not There respectively. Ellen Page received the Breakthrough Performance award for Juno. In the day's biggest surprise, the underappreciated The Darjeeling Limited won Best Screenplay. Here is the complete list of winners.
