The ethnicity, religion, political and private motivations of the girl with the detonating knapsack are never revealed -- nor is her name. Luisa Williams's enormously expressive face carries most of the weight of Day Night Day Night; it wouldn't be much of an overstatement to say that the film is her face: fierce determination shot through with existential dread.
