In the role of a well mannered suicide bomber scheming to blow up Times Square, Luisa Williams is an absolute enigma. The ethnicity, religion, political and private motivations of the girl with the detonating knapsack are never revealed -- nor is her name.

Luisa Williams's enormously expressive face carries most of the weight of Day Night Day Night; it wouldn't be much of an overstatement to say that the film is her face: fierce determination shot through with existential dread.
