2006 Berlinale Award Winners
The Golden Bear, the top prize awarded at the Berlin Film Festival, went to the low budget Bosnian film "Grbavica." Director Jasmila Zbanic's debut film about a single mother and her twelve-year-old daughter is set in post-war Sarajevo; the intimate story is also politcal, bringing to international attention the rape of 20,000 women during Bosnia's 1992-95 war.

The 2006 Indie Spirit Awards have been announced. Noah Baumbach's "The Squid and the Whale" led the field with six nominations for the 2006 Independent Spirit Awards.
