Background:

Alfonso Cuarón Orozco was born on November 28, 1961 in Mexico City, Mexico. The filmmaker has directed films in both his native Mexico and Hollywood.

Children's Films:

Cuarón's dark sensibility shows through in all of his films. Nevertheless, Cuarón has successfully helmed two children's films: The Little Princess (1995) and adaption of the novel by France Hodges Burnett and also the blockbuster hit Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the third of the franchise.

Multi-talented Filmmaker and Producer:

Repeated viewings of Alfonso Cuaron's Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001) only confirm what what a marvelous, nuanced film it is. Ostensibly a raunchy teen comedy, Alfonso Cuoron's fourth, groundbreaking film honestly explores both youth and class. The film also launched the careers of Gael Garcia Bernal profile, Diego Luna and Maribel Verdu.

Cuarón's rivetting Children of Men (2006), an adaptation of the P. D. James novel starring Clive Owen, Julianne Moore and Michael Caine, received wide critical acclaim, including three Academy Award nominations. Cuarón himself received two nominations for his work on the film in both Editing and Adapted Screenplay.

He directed a segment of French film Paris , je t'aime starring Nick Nolte and Ludivine Sagnier.

The prolific filmmaker also created the production and distribution company Esperanto Films with Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, whose titles include Duck Season and Pan's Labyrinth. Cuarón recently acquired the rights to the Nicole Krauss novel the History of Love.
