Jesse Eisenberg provides the Fred Durst's coming of age film The Education of Charlie Banks with a shaggy-haired hero who carefully negotiates the intrusion of an unwelcome childhood bully (Jason Ritter) into his idyllic Ivy League surroundings. Another winning performance.
3. The Squid and The Whale (2005)

Noah Baumbach's autobiographical film of a Brooklyn marriage coming apart at the seams is both funny and painful. As conflicted teenager Walt, Jesse Eisenberg must cope with his father's adulterous ways, his mother's painful fits of despair, and some drastic mood swings of his own.
