Drama. 125 minutes: Long haunted by the memory of a powerful and visceral love affair that
ended in tragedy, Dr. Timoteo Rossi (veteran Italian actor Sergio
Castellitto of Mostly Martha and My Mothers Smile) is forced to
confront his past when his teenage daughter suffers a near fatal
accident. This event sparks a flashback to his past extramarital affair with Italia (Penelope Cruz), a tender but damaged soul who works as a hotel maid. Timoteo met Italia when his car broke down and she offered to let him use her phone. He is overwhelmed by her earthy sensuality, and whether it is the heat, the vodka, or a desire to flee the bourgeois comfort that defines his life, he gives in to his deepest instincts and takes Italia by force. Over time, he visits her more frequently, and what began for both of them as unquenchable lust, soon develops into genuine intimacy and passionate love. For Italia, Timoteo risks his marriage to Elsa (Claudia Gerini of The Passion of Christ), his beautiful and caring spouse. Elsa lets Timoteo lead his double life until she gets pregnant, forcing Timoteo to make a decision that will change all their lives forever.
In perhaps the most existentially drawn sexual drama since Last Tango in Paris, DONT MOVE is a grown-up love story told from the point of view of a sensitive, angst-ridden man in mid-life crisis and a lonely, destitute woman who has never experienced love of any kind in her life.
