2006 Independent Spirit Award Nominations
Don Cheadle and Felicity Huffman announced the nominees for the 2007 Independent Spirit Awards. The big winners are the insanely popular Sundance hit Little Miss Sunshine and the unexpectedly moving drama Half Nelson, which both received four nominations, including Best Feature and Best Director and Best First Screenplay. Four films -- The Dead Girl, American Gun, A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints, and Man Push Cart -- followed with three nominations each.
The Film Independent also announced the presentation of a Special Distinction Award to David Lynch and Laura Dern for their work on INLAND EMPIRE.

Any thoughts on the nominations?
There is certainly a focus on independent films this year – no $40 million prestige films like previous year.
There are some major oversights though.
Maggie Gyllenhaal didn’t get nominated for Sherrybaby?
Not a single nomination for Shortbus? Or Volver? In fact, most of the foreign films nominated haven’t screened yet.
I bet for The Blossoming of maximo Oliveros as Best Foreign Film. This film rocks and touches not only your heart but also your soul!
